The clearest threshold is duration: low mood or anxiety that lasts most days for more than 2 weeks is a reason to consult a professional. Two weeks is long enough to rule out a passing bad stretch and short enough that waiting longer is not useful.

A first consultation is a conversation. You describe what you have been experiencing and for how long; the professional asks questions, considers possible explanations, and discusses options. You do not need to have a diagnosis or a tidy account ready beforehand.
If you are in immediate danger or thinking of harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a crisis line. Crisis lines exist in every country, and they are not reserved for emergencies of a particular severity.
Continuing your exercises alongside professional care is normal and often helpful. The point of the threshold is not to stop everything, but to add the layer of support that self-help cannot provide on its own.
